Today, 2S had a lot of fun.  Michiaiah liked reading the book Just Me and My Grandma with Hailey.  Kira enjoyed listening to Jayda read I am Lost. My New  Kitten was the book that Carter read.  In our classroom we also started a new routine during writing.  We are going to do our best to sound out challenging words.  If we are not sure about the spelling we are just going to underline the word and ask our teachers when they are done working with other students.  Jayden did a great job using this strategy.  Jayden tried to spell fantastic, yesterday and uncle and he spelled those words correctly without needing help!  The day was awesome.

A Note About Halloween

HALLOWEEN  HAPPENINGS Halloween is a couple of days away so I thought I’d take the time to let you know what 2S will be doing this year on Wednesday, October 31st. COSTUMES:  Your child is invited to dress up and wear a costume for Halloween.  If your child is choosing to dress up, please send them in their costume and ready to go at the start of the school day. Remember, students are expected to participate in classroom and school activities which include gym and recess.  Here are a few costume rules:  Please NO WEAPONS, BLOOD OR GORE, OR SMALL     PARTS (e.g. fingernails, eyelashes, etc.).  ACTIVITIES:  Wednesday morning we will do a costume parade through the North Den and will follow our regular classroom routine.  Some activities will have a Halloween twist. SNACK: If you would like to send some special treats for Halloween you may.   Here are some healthy snack suggestions:  veggies and dip, a fruit tray, cheese and crackers.  As well, try to send a plastic container so that your child may bring ‘leftovers’ home if they choose.

 

Math Activity

Gather a collection of about 40 small objects for you to count.  Think about counting by grouping the objects in different ways.  Then explain some of the ways you did this.

 

A Question for Today

Grade twos, today we began our Roots of Empathy program.  What was something that you learned during the discussion you had with Mrs. Reader?

I know that we, as a class, have not added a new post in a while and I would like to say sorry.  I am going to change my focus of this blog for the time being.  I would like to be sharing the amazing things that are happening in our classroom in my own words.

Today, in health, we were discussing stressful and pleasurable situations that students might face.  (using the Rodeo Chaps health unit for grade two)  We did two questions together.  Then I asked the students to think about and write their own answer to the next questions.  The question that the students were suppose to think about was:  Willy has his crayons organized neatly in his pencil-case.  The teacher asked him to take out his red crayon.  Will this be pleasure or stressful for Willy?  When they had their answers written I asked them to split up according to what they had said.  The students were asked to take turns sharing their ideas.  (Which we are focusing on in writing.)  My grade twos brought tears to my eyes as they shared their opinions clearly and could explain why!  To add to this, when the students were asked to explain what their group talked about in front of the whole class Carter went first.  He stood up in front of the class and eloquently explain what he wrote and why.  Then several of his classmates did the same thing, upon request.  (Hope, Jorja, Jayden, Michiaiah)  Thank you, grade twos for being such a pleasurable group of students to work with.
